The Vision of God

This second volume in the Library of Orthodox Theology and Spirituality is written by Vladimir Lossky who, in the years between his departure from Russia in 1923 and his death in 1958, established himself as one of the most brilliant of that band of Orthodox scholars dedicated to presenting the life and thought of the Eastern Church to the West. “The Vision of God” can rank with his classic “Mystical Theology of the Eastern Church”. In it Lossky studies the meaning of the vision of God and its impact on the life and thought of the Church from the rise of Christianity to the time of Gregory Palamas in the fourteenth century and shows how it provided a purpose and a goal for the Christian life, both proclaiming and anticipating the Parousia. This fascinating work is a valuable contribution to ecumenical study.
