From Martyr to muppy

A historical introduction to cultural assimilation processes of a religious minority in the Netherlands: the Mennonites.

From Martyr to Muppy deals with the question how hunted heretics, the Dutch Anabaptists, finally became fully accepted Mennonite urban professionals – muppies. For the first time in English and from a multi-disciplinary point of view the book presents recent findings on the fascinating assimilation history of the Dutch Mennonites from c 1530 to the early 20th century. In fifteen articles North American, Polish and Dutch scholars deal with interesting aspects of Mennonite contributions to the rich history of Dutch culture, literature and way of thinking, as well as to its church history and social economic history.
