Pour l’Orient chrétien, la liturgie est la manifestation suprême de la vie en Christ. Elle est donc un lieu théologique majeur. Mais cette théologie en acte a aussi une histoire. C’est celle-ci que l’auteur retrace, des origines à nos jours, en présentant les grands courants du développement de la messe byzantine. Pour cela il use d’une méthode historique qui étudie des éléments tels que l’art et l’architecture religieuse, les vêtements et les objets liturgiques, et qui témoigne aussi de la profondeur de l’homme religieux. Ce livre présente en même temps de nombreuses clés pour comprendre les rapports entre l’Orient et l’Occident, soulignant notamment les origines liturgiques communes et des éléments de pensée théologique identiques. C’est un apport tout autant oecuménique que culturel à la recherche de l’identité de l’Europe.

La fin du IVe siècle reste un point de repère pour la compréhension de l’initiation chrétienne. Le catéchuménat des adultes connaît à cette époque la plus forte expansion dont témoignent de nombreux documents.

Jean Chrysostome se distingue par la qualité de sa prédication au point d’être désigné, par certains connaisseurs, comme le « docteur de l’eucharistie ». Cependant beaucoup de ses œuvres demeurent difficiles d’accès faute de traductions modernes. Pour la première fois, une sélection significative d’homélies de Jean Chrysostome sur l’eucharistie est présentée avec les outils de lectures qui permettent de les lire avec profit.

Le lecteur pourra découvrir un pasteur animé d’une passion contagieuse, celle de favoriser la rencontre du Christ tant dans le sacrement de l’autel que dans le sacrement du pauvre. Le prédicateur soupçonné parfois de moralisme s’inscrit plutôt dans la continuité du prophétisme biblique en prônan une véritable éthique théologale.

Богослужение можно назвать средоточием всей духовной жизни христианина. В таинствах совершается наше духовное обновление и соединение со Христом для жизни вечной. А церковные службы ставят нас в непосредственную близость с величайшими евангельскими событиями и подвигами святых. Они как бы снимают преграду времени и пространства между нами и воспоминаемыми событиями. Если мы сосредоточенно и с верой присутствуем на церковных службах, то они не только не закрывают от нас этих событий, но, наоборот, делают их особенно наглядными и непосредственно воздействующими на нашу душу. Поэтому богослужение с детства является для нас наилучшей школой христианского просвещения.
Это просветительное и одухотворяющее влияние богослужения на нашу душу будет тем полнее и глубже, чем сознательнее и внимательнее мы учвствуем в нем умом и сердцем.
Средоточием всего Богослужения является Божественная Литургия, когда небо как бы спускается на землю, когда Церковь видит духовными очами вновь приходящего во плоти Христа-Спасителя.
Чтобы облегчить понимание порядка, содержания и смысла Божественной Литургии, предлагаем вам “Размышления о Божественной Литургии” Н.В. Гоголя. Этот великий писатель известен, главным образом, как автор “Мертвых душ”, “Женитьбы”, “Ревизора” или “Вечеров на хуторе близ Диканьки”.
Мало кто знает его глубокие духовные стремления, его горячее желание претворить истины христианства в жизнь – как в личную, так и общественную.
Мало кому известно сколько он страдал, не зная, как осуществить свой высокий идеал.
Во время своего пребывания в Париже в 1845 г., он ежедневно присутствовал на Божественной Литургии и читал труды Отцов Церкви, объясняющие ее.
Он задумал тогда написать “Размышления о Божественной Литургии”, чтобы ознакомить широкие массы верующих с сокровищами скрытыми в ней. У него не было претензии составить богословское произведение. Он хотел изложить в общедоступной форме то, что прочел и перечувствовал, присутствуя на литургии.
Это изложение, впервые изданное в 1857 г. – через 3 года после его смерти – подкупает своей искренностью, теплотой чувств и глубокой религиозностью.

This is a remarkable product of Byzantium’s last great flowering of theology. For the author, man’s redemption in Jesus Christ is not just a matter of history. It is a saving event in which man is called to participate here and now, in body and spirit as well as intellect, through the sacramental life of the Church. The vitality of worship, and not just its form, therefore is the focus of Cabasilas’ thought. Sfânta Scriptură și Sfânta Tradiție în Teologia Patristică

Cartea de faţă tratează o problemă de mare interes interconfesional, cea a raportului dintre Sfânta Scriptură şi Sfânta Tradiţie. Autorul arată că întreaga teologie patristică, în care Sfânta Scriptură este înţeleasă în legătura ei organică cu Sfânta Tradiţie are un caracter sacramental şi eclesial, în contextul Bisericii apostolice. Căci teologia patristică răsăriteană a aprofundat, nu atât raportul “Scriptură-Tradiţie”, cât mai ales esenţa şi însemnătatea Sfintei Tradiţii pentru viaţa Bisericii, a cărei caracteristică fundamentală este şi aceea, de a fi “apostolică”. De altfel, la inaugurarea dialogului dintre Biserica Ortodoxă Română şi Biserica Evanghelică din Germania în anul 1979, Patriarhul Iustin Moisescu de fericită pomenire a propus ca temă: Însemnătatea Sfintelor Taine pentru viaţa Bisericilor noastre. Acest lucru arată faptul, că în Biserica Apostolică nu principiul confruntării era sursa adevărului, ci lucrarea harului dumnezeiesc, viaţa duhovnicească prin naştere din apă şi din Duh, împărtăşirea cugetului lui Hristos prin Sfânta Euharistie şi strădania de înţelegere şi explicare a Sfintei Scripturi.
